Angharad Jones, Work Experience

Jul 1, 2015   //   UGD Talk

Hello my name is Angharad Jones. I am currently studying my A Levels in sixth form in Archbishop Mcgrath Catholic High School. One of the many courses that i study is the Welsh Baccalaureate programme and  part of this course involves taking part in a week long work experience. My teacher suggested that this year we take on work experience that directly relates to what career we would like to get into in the future.

For a few years, i have always been interested in the idea of designing and creating. In my free time and for a hobbie, i loved drawing and designing.  Throughout the thought of what career i would like to continue on with in the future, i realized that i really enjoyed working with the Adobe package and especially Photoshop as it is great fun to work with. I then started to research into what jobs were available to me using this kind of software. I found it, the job that stood out to me was indeed the job of Graphic Design. This really caught my attention and i looked into what it involves and from then on i decided that Graphic Design is the job for me.

Whilst looking into what Graphic Design companies were in and around my area, i came across United Graphic Design. United Graphic Design was where i wanted to go for my work experience and me and my father contacted Lesley, asking if it was possible to come and stay there for a week for my work experience. Turns out it was possible and i am now here blogging on their blog! Its my third day here and i am loving it! I am here until Friday afternoon, and i will be sad to leave but my time here has been very educational and also a lot of fun!

My first day here was Monday. I have to admit i was a little nervous and anxious at the same time, but as soon as i walked through the door i felt very welcomed! I was offered a nice cup of tea by Lesley and i got started on some Photoshop work straight away!

The first project that Anthony set me was to have some fun with fonts! He set me the task to create four posters that show off four different font types, the two that he wanted me to look into was Sans and Sans Serif. I created the four posters using the software Photoshop, i used Times New Roman, Georgia, Lucida Grande and Philly Sans. I made all four look different to each other but they all were very colorful and unique! Also along with these four posters, i designed my very own business card!

On the Tuesday, i was set the task by Anthony to design three new logos and business cards for LMW Child Therapy Services. I really enjoyed this task as i was able to design three brand new designs from scratch with my own ideas and imaginaton! I decided that the first two designs would be similar to eachother but the third and final design would be very different and unique. Here they are:

My personal favorite was Design 2.

I have really enjoyed my time here so far and i really look forward to the next two days with these guys!
